Community Guidelines

Show Up only works if people are kind, safe, and reliable - whether they're meeting through a match, an Instant Meetup, a Casual Meetup, or Discovery. These guidelines apply to every part of the Service, including text chat, voice notes, Collections, and in-person behaviour. Break them and you may lose access. We take action on conduct both on and off the platform when it involves someone you met through Show Up.

1. Show up

This is the whole point. If you accept a match and lock in a meetup with a confirmed time and place, turn up. Plans change - if you truly can't make it, cancel as early as you can rather than ghosting. Repeatedly cancelling locked meetups or no-showing earns strikes and pauses your matching. Mutual cancellations are fine. Life happens. Just communicate.

2. Be respectful

Treat every person you interact with through Show Up - whether matched, invited, or discovered - like a real human being. Show Up is not a dating app. Go in expecting good company, not romance, unless both of you clearly want otherwise. Don't pressure anyone, don't make assumptions, and don't be creepy.

3. Respect boundaries & consent

• No nudity, sexually explicit content, or unsolicited sexual advances - in profiles, chat, or voice notes.
• Private conversations between consenting adults are your business. Public profiles and unsolicited messages are not the place for sexual content.
• Consent is specific, informed, and can be withdrawn at any time. "No" means no. Silence is not consent. Someone who is intoxicated cannot give consent.
• Don't pressure anyone to go somewhere private, drink, or do anything they're not comfortable with.

4. Personal connections, not business

Show Up is for meeting people and going places - nothing else. Don't use it to:

• Advertise, sell, or promote products, services, businesses, or multi-level marketing schemes.
• Solicit money, gifts, donations, investments, or cryptocurrency.
• Recruit for employment, modelling, or any commercial purpose.
• Promote escort services, sex work, or transactional relationships.
• Campaign for a cause, candidate, or religion.
• Promote social media accounts, referral codes, or external links in your profile.

5. Be yourself

• Use your real first name and accurate details. Don't impersonate anyone else.
• Use photos that are actually of you, taken recently, and not materially altered to misrepresent your appearance.
• Don't create fake or duplicate accounts. If you've been banned, don't try to come back with a new account.
• Don't misrepresent your age, identity, location, or intentions.

6. Communicate respectfully

This applies everywhere - chat, voice notes, and in person:

• No harassment. Don't threaten, bully, intimidate, or stalk anyone.
• No hate speech. Don't attack or demean someone based on their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic.
• No doxxing. Don't share someone's private information - phone number, address, workplace, or any other identifying details - without their consent.
• Voice notes. Don't send harassing, threatening, or sexually explicit voice notes. Voice notes are encrypted - respect that privacy and don't record or share them outside the app without consent.

7. No violent content

Don't post, share, or send any content that:

• Depicts or glorifies violence, blood, or death - whether involving people or animals.
• Promotes, encourages, or glorifies self-harm or suicide.
• Depicts weapons in a threatening or intimidating context.

If we believe someone is in imminent danger, we may contact crisis resources or law enforcement.

8. Protect privacy

• Don't share someone else's contact details, photos, voice notes, chat messages, or meetup details without their consent.
• Don't record or screenshot conversations or profiles to share outside the Service.
• Don't publicly post identifying information about other users - including in your profile, chat, or Collections.
• Be careful about sharing your own personal information. Don't post your phone number, email, home address, or financial details in your public profile.

9. Post your own content

• Only post photos, voice notes, and other content that you created or have permission to share.
• Don't post images of other people without their consent.
• Don't post content that infringes someone else's copyright or trademark.
• Don't post someone else's private messages or voice notes.

10. Adults only

You must be 18 or older to use Show Up. No exceptions. Don't post photos of minors - even your own children - unless you are also in the photo and the context is clearly familial. Childhood photos of yourself don't belong here.

11. One person, one account

• One account per person. Don't share your account, let someone else use it, or create accounts on behalf of others.
• Don't maintain multiple accounts at the same time.
• Stay active. Accounts that have been inactive for two years may be deleted.

12. Follow the law

Don't use Show Up to do anything illegal. This includes - but isn't limited to - buying or selling drugs, human trafficking, fraud, scams, or any activity involving minors in a harmful context. If we become aware of illegal activity, we will take action up to and including reporting it to law enforcement.

13. Don't abuse the platform

• Don't spam - no bulk messages, chain messages, or repetitive unsolicited contact.
• Don't spread false or misleading information.
• Don't use Instant Meetups, Casual Meetups, or Discovery to spam requests or disrupt the service.
• Don't use bots, scripts, scrapers, or automated tools to interact with the Service.
• Don't use modified clients, third-party apps, or AI/ML systems to interact with the Service.
• Don't submit false or malicious reports against other users.
• Don't attempt to circumvent blocks, bans, or security measures.
• Don't reverse-engineer, decompile, or probe the Service for vulnerabilities.
• Don't harass, threaten, or abuse Show Up staff.

14. Reporting

If someone violates these guidelines or makes you uncomfortable, use the in-app report tool. Reporting a user you're currently matched with automatically blocks them, cancels the match, and removes all connection between you - with no strike or penalty. Safety always comes first. You can also block any user at any time; blocking a match cancels it without a strike.

When you report someone:

• Your report is confidential - the person you report will not know who reported them.
• We review reports using a combination of automated tools and human moderators.
• We prioritise the most serious violations - threats to safety, harassment, and illegal content.

Only report actual violations. Submitting false, malicious, or repeated unfounded reports - including using the safety report to avoid a cancellation strike when no safety concern exists - is itself a violation and may result in account termination.

15. Consequences

Depending on the severity and frequency of the violation, we may:

• Issue a warning.
• Remove specific content.
• Temporarily suspend your account or certain features (matching, Discovery, chat, voice notes).
• Apply strikes to your reliability record.
• Permanently terminate your account and ban you from the Service.
• Report the conduct to law enforcement where appropriate.

Serious violations - especially those involving safety, harassment, illegal activity, or harm to minors - may result in an immediate and permanent ban without prior warning.

Appeals

If you believe an enforcement action was taken in error, you may appeal by emailing [email protected] with your account details and the reasons for your appeal. We will review your case in good faith.
