This policy explains how Show Up uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website (weshowup.app) and mobile application. Our approach is simple: we use only what's necessary to make the Service work, and nothing for advertising or third-party tracking.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, improve the user experience, and provide information to the website operator. Cookies may be "session cookies" (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent cookies" (remain until they expire or you delete them).
In addition to cookies, we may use similar technologies such as local storage, pixels, and software development kits (SDKs) in our mobile app.
2. Types of cookies

3. Cookies we use
3.1 Essential (strictly necessary) cookies
These are required for the website and app to function. They cannot be disabled because the Service won't work without them. They include:

3.2 Analytics cookies
We use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the Service is used and to identify and fix issues. This data is aggregated and does not identify individual users. We do not use analytics to track you across other websites or to build advertising profiles.
3.3 What we do NOT use
- No advertising or marketing cookies. We don't serve ads and we don't track you for advertising purposes.
- No social networking cookies. We don't embed social media sharing buttons that track you.
- No cross-site tracking. We don't follow you around the internet.
4. Third-party cookies
A limited number of third-party services may set cookies when you use features that rely on them:
4.1 Google Maps
When you use features that display maps - such as browsing spots or viewing meetup locations - Google Maps may set cookies on your device. These cookies are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Google may use these cookies for security, authentication, and service delivery. If you do not interact with map features, these cookies are not set.
4.2 Google Analytics
We may use Google Analytics on our website to understand basic usage patterns. We have configured it to anonymise IP addresses and to not share data with other Google services. Google Analytics uses its own cookies, which are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
5. Mobile app tracking
Our mobile app does not use advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS or AAID on Android) for tracking. The app uses only:
- Push notification tokens - to deliver service notifications about your match, meetup, and messages. You can disable push notifications in your device settings.
- Local storage - to keep you logged in and remember your preferences on your device.
- WebSocket connections - to deliver real-time chat and Instant Meetup updates. These are essential for the Service to function.
6. How to control cookies
6.1 Browser settings
Most web browsers allow you to view, manage, and delete cookies through the browser settings. You can typically:
- Block all cookies or third-party cookies.
- Delete cookies when you close your browser.
- Browse in "private" or "incognito" mode, which automatically deletes cookies at the end of your session.
- Set preferences for specific websites.

6.2 Google Analytics opt-out
You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
6.3 Mobile device settings
On iOS, you can limit ad tracking in Settings Privacy Tracking. On Android, you can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalisation in Settings Google Ads. Note that Show Up does not use advertising identifiers, so these settings do not affect our Service, but they are useful privacy settings for other apps.
Important: Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the Service from functioning correctly. For example, without session cookies, you won't be able to log in.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes, we will provide additional notice.
